Tui Na Massage is an ancient Chinese manipulative therapy and is believed to be the oldest form of bodywork since it has been used for more than 5,000 years. Tui Na in English literally means “Push and Grasp”. The manipulation is focused on techniques such as pressure, kneading and rolling the skin, muscles and acupuncture points in order to treat overall physical imbalances and to stimulate the innate bodily functions of healing. It can cause a chain reaction within the network of acupuncture channels in the body to increase health benefits and improve wellness overall by stimulating the flow of Qi or energy in the channels. In Western medical understanding, it stimulates the release of hormones, cytokines and chemicals in these areas to increase health benefits.
The basic techniques used in Tui Na include:
Palpation
KneadingRejoining
PushingOpposing
HoldingLifting
RollingPressing
There is a special way all of these techniques are executed and not all techniques are used within a session. It depends on the area of the body being treated, the condition of the patient and the outcome desired. Even though some of these techniques sound painful, we do not follow the “no pain, no gain” mentality. As a matter of fact, we have so many tools in our toolbox we would rather find a pain-less way to treat you which will ultimately get you better faster!
