The heat therapy used in the clinic consists of two different types.
- TDP mineral/infra-red lamp
- Moxibustion
The TDP lamp uses far infra-red light technology which:
- Increases circulation in the area of use
- Decreases inflammation.
Use of the TDP lamp will loosen the tendons, muscles and fascia to allow an increase in blood flow to the area. Increased blood flow will help loosen the muscles and within the blood there are immune chemicals which will decrease inflammation and ultimately decrease a recurrence of tightness while healing the condition. The lamp also contains a mineral plate which helps arthritic conditions.
Moxibustion is a technique where warmed herbs are placed over the injury or area of concern. The heat from the herbs:
- Opens the pores in the skin and the principles of the herbs are absorbed for treatment.
- The herbs help increase circulation and decrease inflammation as explained above.
There are many types of moxibustion herbal products. This clinic uses solid moxibustion sticks which are mostly smokeless and are less likely to deposit ash and paper on the treatment area. Each stick is a mixture of 5 therapeutic herbs mixed with charcoal. The stick is lit and waved slowly about 2” above the skin so the patient only feels the comforting warmth given off by the stick as the herbs are working internally.
