Electro-Acupuncture is applied in many conditions involving muscle spasms, paralysis, chronic pain, neuropathy and other neurological conditions. This type of acupuncture uses a mild pulsating electrical current which is used via a Piezo Pen or Electro-Stim Pen used alone or a TENS unit applied to the inserted acupuncture needles. It is a highly successful type of therapy for muscular and neurological conditions.
By causing repeated muscle contraction and relaxation, the electrical stimulation applied to muscles will actually fatigue highly contracted muscles, improve blood flow through these muscles which will also bring immune cells to help the injured muscles repair. It can also be used to awaken muscles that have atrophied or been damaged in some way. When used in painful conditions, the electrical stimulus signals the nerves to block pain receptors. In this way, the message of pain is stopped within the brain so the patient is unaware of pain.
As with all treatments, every individual is treated differently according to their condition. Each individual case is analyzed and treated appropriately via placement of needles, electrical stimulation attachment, frequency, intensity and time duration.
