Frequently Asked Questions

Does Acupuncture hurt?

There are a number of sensations that may occur once the needle has been inserted. Sometimes people feel a small pinch as the needle is inserted, then they may feel either pressure, pulsation, warmth, tingling, or overall lightness. Some people feel nothing at all. [⇑ menu]

What does Acupuncture do in the body?

Acupuncture points are chosen depending on the condition being treated. Overall, acupuncture helps move the Qi (energy in the body) and blood so that the organs and tissues can function properly and maintain health within the body on its own. It also decreases pain and inflammation in traumatic conditions. [⇑ menu]

How often do I need treatments?

The number of treatments is based on the condition of each individual. Most people feel a difference after the first treatment. Chronic conditions usually require more treatments while acute conditions require less-but everyone is different. [⇑ menu]

What do the needles look like?

The needles have a shaft which is the thickness of a cat’s whisker or as thin as a human hair and the handle is just a little thicker. Needle length depends on the area of the body being treated. [⇑ menu]

Do you reuse the needles?

In my practice, the needles are not reused. They are sterile, disposable needles which are discarded after each insertion. [⇑ menu]

How should I prepare for my treatment and are there any restrictions after treatment?

You should always have something small to eat before your Acupuncture appointment. Loose clothing is ideal for each treatment, but I do have gowns if needed. After the appointment, you should not do anything too stressful to allow the acupuncture points to continue their function in making you more healthy. There is no restriction in diet after the treatment unless you have obtained diet advice to coincide with your treatments. [⇑ menu]
